The factory front sight insert was .250 high, .250 wide and had a .080 bead. Fast and accurate, gives me accuracy out to extended "30-30" ranges. I have Williams FP on my rifles that wear peep sights. I have tried A typical scope base and the Skinner rear use the same attachment point on top of the receiver. More practical, IMO, would be a Marble's folding rear sight with a scope mounted. Fold the sight down when the scope is in place, up when the scope is removed. And, yes the Warne rings are pricey, so you might just go with the much less costly Weaver ...I leave the factory front sight on it and have a gunsmith remove the factory buckhorn rear sight. The gunsmith will insert a little metal wafer "blank" in the dovetail slot where the buckhorn rear sight was, but that's just for cosmetics.
