The 11-48's were made between 1949 and 1968. And a lot of them were made. About a half million. If you call Remington and give them the Sn that can tell you when it was made. I found a sight online a while back that had dates by SN but I can;t find it at the moment. I have one. Mine was made in 1951.The attached pictures are of my Remington Sportsman 48, 12 guage, 2 3/4 or shorter shells. It is equipped with a Cutts/Lyman Adjustable Comp. Tube. The checkering appears to be in good shape except for one small scuff spot on the bottom of the fore arm.
